Itunes Sharing

So there I was, sitting pretty having a coffee in the corner of a so called ‘Conference centre’ when I felt the urge for some digital therapy. After getting the Macbook out, putting the headphones on and listening to some sweet Steely Dan I suddenly noticed that my shared folder list had suddenly multiplied. Normally only occupied by my office PC, it suddenly sprouted an amazing array of names.

Now, I normally switch off all sharing on my control panel as soon the MacBook leaves the secure confines of its home network, but I wonder whether these people know that their personal taste in music can be seen (and listened to). I then did a quick check of my network folder, and indeed: dozens of mac users with easy access to machines.

Maybe the majority of these user should -before yelling at facebook – make sure their own machines are fiddle proof?

Welcome to the new Zeitgeist.

To quote Mo Udall, liberal democratic congressman who lost in the primaries to Jimmy Carter:

The People have spoken. The Bastards.

And to start this new dawn of European style politics in the UK, let me play you the hymn to the Zeitgeist. Called – unsurprisingly –  ‘Zeitgeist”, by the ever so spiffing ‘Hamburger Arroganz‘.

The Antichrist?

While doing the dishes (definitely a man’s job in this household. By choice!) I listened to Matt Frei’s excellent ‘Americana‘, a weekly collection of odd stories from that most entertaining of all showbiz variants: American politics. After Newt Gingrich pretty much confirmed that he will be standing for president in 2010, Frei then proceeded to interview domestic security guru Richard Clarke, who astonished me with the little snippet that according to a Harris Poll 24% of Republicans believe that Barack Obama is the ‘Antichrist‘.

Gosh.

I don’t know what’s worse about this factoid, the amount of rabid religiosity this displays or the sheer stupidity. With Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement gaining momentum, Newt Gingrich looks positively desirable as the next republican candidate.

As someone who lived through the beginnings of his ‘Contract with America’ I never thought I would ever write this.
